SANDY MILLER is a ceramic and visual artist in Cookeville, TN. Her obsessively textured and colorful ceramic work reflects her years of observation of nature as a (former) scuba instructor; graphic designer; photographer and visual artist. She photographed small aquatic animals like corals, sponges, invertebrates, and the underwater terrain, falling in love with minute textures and patterns found there. Now land-based, Sandy photographs nature’s flora and geographical formations, carving and impressing these qualities into her work. Her functional and decorative ceramic process was an evolution of trial and error, taking years of experimentation to develop. Glazes on her “functional” work are all food-microwave-and dishwasher-safe.
