Living and working as a professional artist in the upper Cumberland region of Tennessee since the 1980’s , I developed a method of creating “woodgrain canvases” that have both realistic and abstract elements. The rhythmic flow of woodgrain patterns are the background for my simply stated landscapes. They appear as sky, land, bodies of water and a wood knot is often used to represent the sun or moon. To develop the scene, I use a variety of media , including watercolors, pen and ink, acrylics and wood stains. Various techniques of carving, modeling and painting are used, then finished with beeswax, resulting in a unique and organic feel to my compositions.
