Charlene Lachicotte

Mixed Media / Jewelry / Sculpture

Charlene Lachicotte has spent most of her life in middle Tennessee. She attended Middle Tennessee State University in the early 2000s, focusing on philosophy, photography, and art. Ms. Lachicotte received her BFA, with a concentration in metals, from Tennessee Tech University in 2018. She was awarded the Windgate Fellowship in 2018, and she has won several Best of Show awards during her time at Tennessee Tech. She has participated in numerous workshops at Arrowmont School of Craft and Appalachian Center for Craft. She has been working in Tennessee Tech's Joan Derryberry Art Gallery as the coordinator and assistant for the past 5 years. Charlene's work is inspired by the work and philosophy of the Abstract Modernists, existentialism, logic and absurdism, history and adventure. She uses metal, wood, vitreous enamel, and found objects and materials to make unique jewelry and small scale sculptural objects. She embraces well-crafted mistakes and breaking the rules. Often these works are a visceral exploration of technique, material, and form, heavily based in experimentation and spontaneity, but grounded in tedium and challenge. As an aspiring gallerist, she hopes to one day own a her own gallery space where she can cultivate a community of experimental crafters, makers, artists, musicians and the like.
